The Domaine and Philosophy

Based in Villé-Morgon, Thibault is a first-generation winemaker in terms of his own label, though he grew up surrounded by vines. He currently manages about 10.5 hectares of vineyards, primarily in the Beaujolais-Villages and Morgon appellations.

His philosophy is captured in a simple phrase: "La nature, rien que la nature" (Nature, nothing but nature). This isn't just a slogan; it’s a rigorous daily practice.

  • In the Vineyard: Thibault works with high-density plantings on granite and schist soils. He treats the land with deep respect, avoiding synthetic chemicals and focusing on soil health to ensure the Gamay grapes reach their full, vibrant potential.
  • In the Cellar: The approach is hands-off to let the fruit speak. He utilizes whole-cluster fermentation and semi-carbonic maceration—the soul of Beaujolais winemaking—using only indigenous yeasts.

What Makes These Wines Special?

Thibault Ducroux’s wines are masterclasses in balance. While many natural wines lean into "funk," Thibault’s bottles are remarkably clean and focused. Whether it is his "L'Indomptable" Beaujolais-Villages or his structured Morgon, you can expect:

  • Vibrant Fruit: Think wild strawberries, crushed raspberries, and bright cherries.
  • Terroir-Driven Minerality: A distinct flinty, stony backbone derived from the granite soils.
  • Purity: Bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal to no added sulfur, these wines represent the purest expression of the vintage.

Thibault Ducroux represents a bridge between the traditional heritage of the Beaujolais and a modern, low-intervention future. These are honest, joyous wines that reflect the spirit of a producer who truly listens to his land.

The name and label of his "En Roue Libre" cuvée are a playful homage to Thibault’s life outside the cellar, reflecting his passion for cycling and his active membership in a local bicycle club.

Our Discovery: A Standout in the Cellar

Our connection to these wines began during a recent wine tour through the region. We were visiting Thibault’s brother, Dimitri Ducroux, and while tasting through a variety of expressions of the local terroir, Thibault’s wines immediately grabbed our attention.

In a lineup of exceptional bottles, his stood out for their remarkable "buvabilité" (drinkability) and crystalline clarity. There was a specific energy in the glass that we knew we had to bring back to the shop.
