Agricola I Forestieri

Agricola I Forestieri

The 'Outsiders' of Maremma!

Two young friends have joined forces to restore old and abandoned vineyards in Upper Maremma, Tuscany. Both connected by love for authentic wines, natural practices and respect for the ecosystem. Their wines are produced without interventions, they are vibrant and complex yet fun and modern with a mild alcohol content comparing to other Tuscan wines.

Outsiders, Rooted in Maremma

Forestieri — an old-fashioned term to address outsiders — is what they share. Dario comes from Pisa, while Ezequiel is a native of Argentina. Dario has gained great experience in biodynamic practices in renowned wineries across Italy and France meanwhile Ezequiel became a great cellar master at Ampelaia, here in Tuscany is where their paths crossed.

In 2019 they started their own project, Agricola i Forestieri. From the beginning, their aim has been to create wines that reflect who they are. They decided to restore old — often abandoned — vineyards, those most deeply connected to the hilly landscape of this land.

They gathered small vineyards scattered across the area. From these parcels, they began shaping wines that could truly speak of the terroir, where the uniqueness of each individual parcel contributes to the final result.

Roccatederighi is a land that carries a powerful energy. It is a singular territory, long rooted in sustainable farming. This heritage has given them the freedom to craft wines outside conventional schemes.

Beyond the Tuscan Image

Alta Maremma, a highland zone within the Metalliferous Hills Park, a landscape recognised and protected by UNESCO. The area is shaped by winding dirt roads that cut through Mediterranean scrub and rise into chestnut woods—an environment far removed from the postcard image of Tuscany, with its orderly cypress-lined vineyards.

Geologically, this land is remarkably complex. Its soils range from volcanic formations such as rhyolite and basalt to sandstone, marl, granite, and clay-rich deposits. The presence of many small, scattered vineyards offers us an exceptionally broad and nuanced spectrum of expressions to work with.

Etruscan Agriculture

The vineyards lie between roughly 200 and nearly 600 meters above sea level. Historically, in Etruscan times vines here were planted together in mixed rows, preserving the biodiversity typical of non-intensive farming. Sangiovese grew alongside Trebbiano, Malvasia Bianca Toscana, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia Nera, Alicante Nero, Moscato, and other rare local varieties. Preserving this traditional diversity remains central to our approach.

Their commitment to conservation continues through the use of biodynamic preparations and green manure, allowing us to nurture the vineyards while respecting the balance of the ecosystem.
